Who'd have thought it, eh? Being hammered 36-10 at one point by a twelve-man Leigh team, and then making the comeback of all comebacks, (for a Halifax team, anyway), to win 36-42. Of course, if you believe the Leigh fans, the ref and a certain TJ won the game for Fax and not the tenacity and never say die attitude of those playing for the visiting team. OK, Leigh had a man sent off, and that will take its toll on any side, but Halifax were down to two subs following high shots and other injuries. Swings and roundabouts, fellas. Anyhow, down to the nitty-gritty.
It would appear that James Haley has well and truly recovered from last years serious injury and taken his chance in the centre spot vacated by the injured Mike Ratu to take his third fans man-of-the-match award this season. Keep it up, James.
He is followed by the livewire hooker/half back Sean Penkywicz, who just gets better and better. he will be missed whilst out with a scaphoid injury.
Miles Greenwood has come in for some stick from the messageboard users in his first season with Halifax, but turned in a performance against his former employers that earned him third place with your votes. Can't wait to see him play on a dry pitch for a change; I'm sure we haven't seen the best from him yet.

This weekend's game saw a drastic change in the backs after the double debacle against the Celtic Crusaders with Miles Greenwood moving to full back and Shad going to loose forward. In came Gibbo, James Haley, and Lee Greenwood, with Varks retaining the other centre place. After seeing Ratu and Goddard behind me in the queue at the burger van before kick-off, I feared the worst. And then, when hearing the team sheet without Andy Smith, I really began to worry. My fears weren't compounded until Fev ran in an equalising try just before half time off Southern's pass, (his only mistake I believe). Despair was in the air until, in the second half, the real Halifax RLFC turned up. Was this the same team that left the field only 15 minutes before? They immediately showed they meant business when they moved quickly upfield and Shad crashed over for his second try of three. It was all Halifax from then on, although dropped ball from both sides throughout the game meant that this was never going to be a classic. Mick Govin took home three stitches to a head wound as a souvenir, courtesy of Tony Tonks who received a sin-binning for his troubles. Truth be told; all in all, it was a normal roller coaster ride for us Fax fans.

I've nothing that I really want to say about this game. Nothing, that is, that can be repeated where kiddies might read it. Oh, well. Onwards and upwards. Your votes gave it like this: 1st - Paul Southern, 2nd - Mick Govin, =3rd - Miles Greenwood & Dana Wilson.

After a long trip to South Wales, most fans went home from Brewery Fields with an air of disappointment. Not only for the loss, but many believed that there weren't many positives to be taken from a lack-lustre performance in the torrential rain and increasingly sticky mud. Unsurprisingly, due to the distance of the venue, there weren't as many votes tendered for this fixture. However, the top three stood out: 1st Paul Smith; 2nd Dave Larder; 3rd Richard Varkulis.

Judging by what I heard on Radio Leeds and what I've read on the message board, Halifax were very lucky to come away with the win in what was very much a Jekyll and Hyde performance. Despite that, the three points came Halifax's way after the referee awarded a debatable knock-on against Dewsbury in the final moments which would have given the hosts the win. The voting for this game reflects the effort put in by the forwards with the top three all being members of the pack, and no votes being cast for Royston, Patterson or Goddard. Anyhow, your first choice is Sean Penkywicz; the hard-working captain.
Followed by Paul Southern in second place, and Haighy's idol, superstar Dave Larder taking the remaining place in third.

NL1 Rd:1 Man of the Match v Sheffield Eagles

With the season proper now underway, Graham Holroyd showed why 'Haven coach, Paul Crarey, said that he played in a dinner jacket. Sadly, it would appear that 'Holly' is a sloppy eater as his best bib and tucker was manky after this run out against the Eagles. He totally bossed the show, leading Fax around the field and had a hand in many of the tries. This clearly showed in the fans vote as he got twice as many votes as his nearest rival, (see the table to the left), and totally contrasts with the Courier reporter's choice in the Halifax rag.
David Wrench took second place with a solid showing. Taking the ball up time and again along with good marker defence caught my notice. He's having a good start to the year, and long may it continue.
Lee Patterson was just squeezed into third place despite another hat-trick of tries bringing this years tall to thirteen. This lad has pace to burn and can score from anywhere. Keep them coming, Lee.

Andy Smith has taken the honours for the second time this year with a convincing display at the Huntington Stadium. This guy is like an extra forward and more than often makes the extra yards in the tackle. Nice one, Andy.
2nd: Lee Patterson increased his try tally with another three, making it seven in two games. He is forming an impressive partnership with centre Jon Goddard.
3rd: Sean Penkywicz - as lively and influential as ever.

Halifax progressed to the fourth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup at the weekend with a stuttering display against a niggly, yet griity York side with Lee Patterson scoring his second hat-trick in as many games.

After destroying a decidedly under-strength Workington Town, you fans have voted for Graham Holroyd as your man-of-the-match. His passes and kicking game were sublime on the day, and he even managed to get on the score sheet as well! Mustn't forget he also kicked twelve goals from sixteen attempts. 
Second place went to Lee Patterson. Lee bagged a hat-trick of tries and was also awarded a penalty try after he was held back when in the process of dropping on the ball in the in-goal area.
Third place went to James Haley, who proved that he's still got it after the nasty injury he picked up this time last year. Good to see him back on form.
