Obviosuly he knew he was shielding Atkins, but he didn't do anything illegal. He ran in a straight line at a constant pace. If folk are saying what he did was illegal than they're saying he should have stopped running as a support player and moved to allow a player to tackle Atkins.

It wasn't as obvious, but Jefferies did the same thing last week at Wakefield. Its just a bit of gamesmanship. No different to getting up off a player in a tackle as slowly as the ref will allow you.

Nothing wrong with it other than it being a bit cheeky. On every half break there are players running straight forward (which he was always) looking around, maybe slowing down for a pass etc. What would you put in the rule book? The ref has to deem when a player shouldn't pass it to a player on his shoulder?

Try. He doesn't alter his run, and Atkins is never getting caught.

You can't rule out tries for that.

Probably rubbish but i am sure you can be penalised for anything that is seen as against the true spirit of the game.

If players were penalised for doing things that were against the spirit of the game, matches between the 'top' clubs would end up with half a dozen players on the pitch; that's just more of Eddie's stuff and nonsense.

Riley ran in a straight line at a constant pace; he was not obliged to move aside to let someone tackle Atkins. Jeffries did the identical thing against us last week - I don't remember any outcry about that.
