it would have been great PR for RL if Dixon had been given a place in the full England World Cup squad in the same way Theo Walcott was some years ago by the F.A. But that would require a sophisticated governing body!

Walcott didn't play and it was a waste of squad place. Erikson had so little confidence in him that even as we were going out and badly in need of some X factor, he didn't even think that bunging on Walcott for the last 20 minutes was worth a shot.
Not a good example of a decent governing body (not that the FA made that decision). |

Exactly, I remember that night well, what did he have to lose? , send his ' secret weapon ' on, with the whole world wondering, and the opposition thinking " who the hell is this? "

I doubt it. The reason why the Walcott story was headline news was that enough people cared about the team selection and knew enough about soccer to find it a bizarre decision. Neither is really true of RL. |
