While his template for success didn't actually work at Leeds, his time here was certainly entertaining with so many of my favourite players from that era - Hanley, Tait, Innes, Fallon, Faimalo, Howard, Iro, Mann, Mercer etc being signed by him. He certainly had an eye for a player. Not that there weren't a few duds as well.
I think the bad loss at Wembley in a game most fancied us as winning even Wigan fans thought their run was coming to an end. We under performed badly that day followed by that 69 point drubbing in the premiership final.
Finally the club were on the verge of bankruptcy and Doug got the bullet as i guess he was not cheap.
Dougs great Legacy for us was the junior signing and development that eventually bore fruit. If the club had not nearly gone under and stuck with Doug with the likes of Morley coming through i reckon we would not have waited as long for our first Title. Imagine The club with Graham Murray as head coach and Doug as DOR
