| Quote spooneryork="spooneryork"icon_sad.gif I won't be feathering greedy Edinborough Hoteliers or the Scottish RU's nest, No thank you! The magic weekend should be held at Sheffield, Liverpool or Newcastle, it's pointless having it in Scotland. At least when it was in Cardiff there is a thriving RL scene nearby and good local interest.'"
Once again, which stadiums would allow 6/7 games over two days on one pitch at the business end of the footy season? I'll give you a clue, none.
As for Sheffield and Liverpool (even Newcastle) none have the number of hotel rooms and event like this needs, nor do they have a tourist board willing to hand over a large wad of cash.
Until you sort out those two basics you have no point.

UTTER RUBBISH, Sheffield has hosted some massive major sporting events, World Student games, World Athletics events, Newcastle has hosted the Tall ships, Music festivals, it's a huge short break destination, and the Tourist Board are excellent, also like sheffield it's used to having large Sporting crowds in town. The Rail links to both are excellent.

I'm not been ripped off by greedy hoteliers or lining the RFU's pockets, I will go to the Double Header in London in July when it's The Skolars v York RL, and Quins v Leeds. Yes it's at The Stoop, but least I'm supporting RL in London, Train Fare = £25, Hotel = £35 Sorted! Stick the Magic weekend up your !

And where was the athletes village for the World Student Games? And how far back do you want to go? Newcastle doesn't have the hotel rooms for a two day event like this either, if Cardiff can't cope then there are few cities who can.
But all of that is small change until you answer the two key points, what stadium will host 6 or 7 games over two days and what tourist board has a large budget to hand over to us?

| judging by the amount of tickets sold I think all the supporters could fit in one hotel anyway.

Your'e missing the Point, if the event was held somewhere that is easy for most people to get to and from in a day, many fans would pick a specific day to go on, and give it a try, not everyone stays overnight but by holding it in places that are quite far flung you are forcing them to which is why so many fans don't go, because of the extra costs incurred. You are asking too much of Fans to pay for another overnight stay on top of trips to France and the Challenge Cup Final.
As for the World student games, the families and speccies didn't stay in the althletes village. I'm guessing a high percentage of RL fans attending the Magic weekend will be from the North of England, which is why the idea of Sheffield, Liverpool or Newcastle as a venue is ideal, change the date of the magic weekend so it's just after the football season has finished and straight away the stadium issue is simpler? All these venues are still easy to get to and from in a day from London.
Regarding tourist boards supporting the event the concensus from people posting on here is that the Edinborough Tourist board has done very little at all to publicise the event.

| Wasn't the whole point if the magic weekend to increase the interest in rl in what are traditionally non rl areas? Hence Cardiff which has spawned 2 pro welsh teams and a great uptake amongst players and the performance of Wales in the euro cup.
I agree jockland is a bad move and think it should be cycled in a different city each year like the suprbowl. Southampton or Portsmouth are possible both big grounds with low div teams who can't fill them. Birmingham, Cardiff, Plymouth Ipswich etc

No, it was devised to give Cardiff an event to replace the CC final (along with all the footy stuff) when it moved back to Wembley. There was no expansion agenda when it was started.

You are still falling into the trap of thinking football clubs want this kind of business at this time of year.

No, you are missing the point, the tourist board pays a large amount of cash to have their hotels full and the tourist economy boosted, if that doesn't happen the large amount of cash isn't on the table.
Quote spooneryork="spooneryork"All these venues are still easy to get to and from in a day from London.'"
And how many of these venues would want that many games played in two days? The only venue that would take it would be Don Valley which apart from shocking public transport links has a full running track around the pitch which tends to upset your average RL fan. Dunno what London has to do with it though...
Quote spooneryork="spooneryork"Regarding tourist boards supporting the event the concensus from people posting on here is that the Edinborough Tourist board has done very little at all to publicise the event.'"
They pay the RFL a large chunk of cash to have the event in the city, that is the extent of their obligations, it is down to the SRL and the RFL to publisise the event.
