To be honest I think coaching Warrington would be a dream role for any high profile coach from here or Australia as we have the playing staff, facilities and financial backing. Why we can't make it work beggars belief.

And get rid of everyone else involved with the coaching staff, clean start is waht we need with a top coach. No point having quality players with another unproven coach and support staff.

International coach is a totally different kettle of fish sunshine

Funny I thought we had now lost seven on the bounce. Many of which in embarrassing fashion.

Whoever is linked with the club, people will find reasons to be negative.



When Leeds appointed Brian McLennan people said he was a good international coach but wouldn't be able to transfer that to the domestic game (Paul Youane remembers that one)



When Saints appointed Daniel Anderson there were people pointing to his shocking international record in charge of the Kiwis, he had finished bottom of the Tri Nations the year before when Noble's GB were far better than his Kiwi team (although McLennan managed to win the Tri Nations with them the next season). And also apparently appointing Anderson was a gamble because he falls out with people, he caused trouble at the Warriors and quit them after loads of players left the club because they didn't like him. Anderson was supposedly going to cause trouble at Saints and it would all end in tears....but a Super League title, three Challenge Cups and a WCC wasn't a bad record for three and a half seasons work.



At the end of the day there is an element of the unknown in any coaching appointment, it is always going to be a calculated gamble. But Hanley, Smith, Folkes, and so on are far less a gamble than appointing Lowes, who had no experience other than being an assistant in a Salford team which got relegated, and Cullen's Warrington.

Spot on. It is a gamble, and a new coach isn't a guarantee of success.



This is one of the reasons I think it is really difficult to rate how good coaches are. Sometimes, with a class coach, things just all fit into place, and everything works for them. They then move to a new club, and things just don't work.



I would be looking for a coach who has won things, but who has also been to more than one club and had success at the top level.

How many coaches fit into that mould though?



I would be happy with any of the ones that you named above, at least they have won something.

And we did many times with Cullen and he got 5 years, people seem very quick to shoot down the inexperienced coach instead of putting blame on the players.

Just looked at the last few years results, and the biggest losing streak I saw with Cullen in charge (excluding Challenge Cup as the stats are not included) is 4 games.



There were some embarassing defeats under him, but the last 7 games or so have been as bad as anything I have seen for years and years, with no glimmer of hope.

Just think some of the Lowes bashing is a little harsh.

But there was plenty of bashing for a coach who never saw us lose more than 4 on the bounce.



The way we are playing now is truly dire, and that is why he is getting stick. I don't buy the fact that players dont always try, and it's as simple as that. The team look very poorly managed.

He was said to have experience and according to experts, commentators and pundits was the next best thing.



Lowes has no experience and isn't even being give a chance, the last few games of last season we were decimated by injuries for god sake, was that the fault of Lowes.

Have you seen anything from this team that gives you confidence it will come good? I haven't, that is why people are angry.



We haven't lost 7 games on the bounce for years. That is form worthy of a coach being sacked whichever club you are,and whichever coach you are.

Lowes might not have been the most experienced, gifted, eloquent, intelligent, diplomatic, tallest of some of the names on the shortlist doug did on his lunch break, but the important thing is he knew the players already from when he used to speak to them while they gave him lifts, and [uthat's[/u whats important.



To bring a NRL/SL winning coach in during the season is not guaranteed to happen. It will take the season to settle in.



I say stick with lowes, his interviews are intersting.
