| Quote Sandal Cat="Sandal Cat"Correct. Give the Outline Consent and a detailed application for the stadium and infrastructure can be submitted and we can get on with it. Could even start building Spring/Summer 2011.
And before anyone says there will be a Public Inquiry which will put is back 12 months or more there wont be (IMO). The current Government will NOT spend time and money on a PI, they will leave the decision to Wakefield MDC.
So Wakefield MDC, its up to you, do you want a Community Stadium for the benefit of the Wakefield District or not - its up to you.'"
Absolutely; calling in for a PI would be totally counterintuitive to the Con-Dem's stated aim to reduce government interference in local issues. It would also be very expensive. For both those reasons, I really can't see it happening.
Considering where we are now, I'd say WMDC now have a duty to fast-track the planning and get the whole thing moving; if they continue to drag their heels, they could potentially cost the district much needed sporting facilities and employment opportunities, both coming at no cost to the districts council tax payers.

| I hope both teams can now crack on and get the stadiums built and keep the SL lisences for a very long time.
Then in 2012 or whatever we can have a monumental derby in front of 15000 at Glasshoughton or Newmarket on good friday and show that this area can sustain 2 SL teams!!

| A winning team always attracts/holds on to fans so the fact that you were winning each week in NL1 was a major factor. I note that you are now losing fans due to the early season indifferent form. Fans are very fickle - winning is everything.

Totally agree.
You are showing up the Outwood Embarrasment Tiger. Give him a nudge will you?

| Sad state of affairs for both clubs but particularly so for Wakey.
Cas have outline planning permission for a stadium in a superb location with excellent transport links but not enough money to see it through.
Wakey have an application in for outline permission - an application which breaks just about every rule in the book:
In the green belt - that will change I hear some say as 95 hectares needs to be released in Wakey for development. This site alone would provide almost the whole of that 95 hectares - 95 hectares which is not needed until 2021 as there's plenty of existing around to meet demand until then.
Depends on 1. warehousing - plenty vacant around already; 2. offices - presumption is they should be built in the city centre which, last time I looked, Newmarket Lane isn't; 3. hotel - same comments as offices.
Transport - two buses an hour pass the site and the bus company state they won't put more on or divert existing services into the site. No rail. Insufficient parking. Too far to walk.
12 pages of objections last time I looked, including from pretty much every statutory undertaker.
It ticks every 'fail' box on the planners list except one - exceptional circumstances. It would be a travesty, on planning grounds, if the Planning and Highways Committee allowed that to be the over-riding factor when the stadium would occupy such a small part of the site. If they do then it will undoubtedly go to a public enquiry.
I wish both clubs well but, with the current state of affairs, I can only see one franchise in the area next time around.

Quote deeHell="deeHell"I read the council statement to read that the £2m land loans are up for review in September and hinting that they will be withdrawn. This statement from the club wakefieldwildcats.co.uk/2010/07/stadium-update/ suggest otherwise!
'"
Not so sure as to why they'd have to withdraw in sept. The council aren't spending money by offering both sides a loan. Neither borrowing against it themselves or selling it are likely solutions to their own possible shortfall post-spending review, so it would make little difference. What they are covering themselves in the event they did have to pull the loan, as well as making it clear that they are very unlikely to be in a position to give financial help beyond that.

| "I'm sure this thread was a lot longer the last time I looked."
The thread is about the council statement, not number of fans knob measuring contests or paternity issues in the outlying districts of our famous city.
Now play nice, people.
