Retire at play the ball
10 (g) players of the side not in possession other than the-ball the player taking part in the play-the-ball and the acting half back are out of play if they fail to retire ten (10) metres from the point at which the ball is played or to their own goal lines. Players of the side in possession other than the player taking part in the play-the-ball and the acting halfback must retire behind their players involved in the play-the-ball or to their own goal line.
10(h) having retired the distance prescribed in the preceding paragraph no player of the team not in possession may advance until the ball has cleared the ruck. A player who is out of play may again take part in the game when the advantage gained by not retiring has been lost.'"
While I have the Laws of the game to hand .....
I think the confusion here comes from this bit:
Quote The Laws ="The Laws "A player who is out of play may again take part in the game when the advantage gained by not retiring has been lost.'"
That appears to be written with defenders in mind but is possibly open to interpretation and probably does apply to attackers in Super League every week when ball carriers "play them back onside"....hence another heated debate!  |

Even if that was applied to an offside attacker at the play the ball Webb was never out of the play as he was offering support to Burrow all the way down the field. He didn't remotely retire out of the play he was in it all the way.
One to look out for in the future perhaps but another correct ruling for me. |

Having just watched the recording, that is probably right, although he actually turned and supported simultaneously as Burrow went past him but its hard to argue that negated the advantage from being there in the first place.

That's the pertitant point IMO. By plucking this one out tonight they have opened a potential can of worms, it would probably better for all concerned if this one was put back in the "obscure" cupboard rather than earning a high profile on the refereeing agenda |

I'm not as convinced as some appear to be that it's a common occurrence and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see another such obvious example the rest of the season. I guess we'll see. |
